Rami Piiroinen

Director of Remote Sensing at Sharper Shape

Rami Piiroinen has a diverse work experience in the field of remote sensing and GIS. Rami started their career in 2012 as a Research Assistant and Remote Sensing Operator at the University of Helsinki, where they were involved in planning and executing remote sensing campaigns. Rami processed the datasets and delivered the finished products to stakeholders at universities and research institutes.

In 2013, Rami worked as a Flight Operator and GIS Operator at Spectral Mapping Services. Rami'sresponsibilities included operating flights and GIS systems to gather data for mapping purposes.

From 2014 to 2018, Rami served as a Researcher and PhD Student at the University of Helsinki. Rami then transitioned to the role of Lecturer and Teacher, where they conducted various remote sensing courses and taught geoinformatics courses.

In 2018, Rami co-founded Mapple and assumed the position of CEO. Rami held this role until 2020, focusing on leading the company's operations and strategic direction.

Currently, Rami is employed at Sharper Shape Group, starting in 2020. Rami initially worked as the GIS Team Lead and later transitioned to the role of Director of Data Processing and Analytics. Presently, they serve as the Director of the Remote Sensing unit, responsible for harmonizing technical development efforts and overseeing the integration of advanced sensor systems into the company's remote sensing units. Additionally, they supervise the development of a processing pipeline for the company's data platform.

Rami Piiroinen completed their education at the University of Helsinki, where they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Geoinformatics. Rami attended this university from 2014 to 2018.
