Ivan Vasconcelos has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies and academic institutions. Starting from 2023, they worked as a Principal Researcher and Head of AI and Monitoring at Shearwater GeoServices. In this role, they led a new R&D team focused on AI/ML for monitoring applications in geosciences. Before that, they worked as an Associate Professor and Assistant Professor of Applied Geoscience at Utrecht University from 2016 to 2023. Their research interests included seismic imaging, ultrasound imaging, and radar imaging for Earth and planetary studies. Prior to that, they held positions as a Principal Research Scientist and Senior Research Scientist at Schlumberger from 2010 to 2016. Ivan also had experience as a Visiting Industry Fellow at the University of Edinburgh and the Edinburgh Imaging Project. Their early career included roles as a Research Geophysicist at ION Geophysical Corporation and a Research Scientist at GX Technology.
Ivan Vasconcelos holds a Ph.D. in Geophysics and Physics from the Colorado School of Mines, where they were enrolled from 2003 to 2007. Prior to that, they completed their B.Sc. (Honors) in Geophysics and Physics at USP - Universidade de São Paulo from 1999 to 2003.
