Alvin Salehi

Founder & Co-CEO at Shef

Alvin Salehi is the founder and co-CEO of Shef, a food delivery service. Prior to Shef, they were a partner at NextGen Venture Partners, a venture capital firm. Alvin has also served as a research affiliate at Harvard Law School's Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society and as co-founder of Code.gov, the federal government's open source software repository.

Salehi began their career as a foreign affairs officer with the U.S. Department of State, where they worked on expanding Internet access and connectivity in Sub-Saharan Africa. Alvin later served as senior technology advisor to the Office of the Federal CIO at the White House before joining ARPA-E, the Department of Energy's clean energy research agency, as chief counsel.

In May 2007, Salehi left government service to join KTLA-5, a Los Angeles-based television station, as an associate producer. Alvin remained with KTLA until January 2013, when they returned to school to attend Harvard Law School.

Salehi attended Y Combinator and the University of Southern California, where they obtained their J.D. and M.A. in Communication & Management respectively. Alvin also holds a B.A. in Political Science and B.A. in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Southern California.
