Larry C. Howdyshell

Board Director at Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative

Larry C. Howdyshell lives in Mt. Solon and has served as a director from Augusta/Highland counties since 1992. He currently serves on the Finance Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee.

Larry has served as Secretary/Treasurer, Vice Chair, and Chair of the board. He has completed the Credentialed Cooperative Director (CCD) program, and received the Board Leadership Certificate through the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. He also has the Director Gold Certificate, the highest level of board certification.

He owns and operates Scenic View in Mt. Solon and Rockingham County. Larry raises corn, hay, small grains and soybeans, and cattle are part of the operation.

After graduating from Buffalo Gap High School, Larry joined the U.S. Army serving in the Signal Corps for two years. During his time in the army, he attained the rank of sergeant and served tours of duty in Vietnam and Germany.

Larry has served as chairman of the board of directors of Rockingham Cooperative, and is a member of the Hughes Collins VFW Post 3136 and the Buffalo Gap FFA Alumni Association.

In 2000, he was elected to serve on the Augusta County Board of Supervisors representing the North River District. He served three terms on the Augusta County Board of Supervisors, where he served two annual terms as chairman.

Larry and his wife, the former Marsha Shiflet of Swoope, are natives of Augusta County and attend Emanuel Church of the Brethren. Mrs. Howdyshell is a retired nurse from RMH. The Howdyshells have two married daughters.
