Heather Youngs is the Director at Sherlock Biosciences. Heather was previously the Director of the Bakar Fellows Program for Faculty Entrepeneurs at UC Berkeley from January 2009 to August 2016. The Bakar Fellows Program supports innovative research by early career faculty at UC Berkeley with a special focus on projects that hold commercial promise in the fields such as Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences. Heather was also an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at Michigan Technological University from January 2005 to December 2009 where they worked on projects that included the analysis of cell wall composition change in response to genetic, developmental, and environmental factors, the examination of matrix metalloproteases in plants, and glycomimetic peptides. Heather started their career as a Post-doctoral Fellow at Carnegie Institution/Stanford University from January 2002 to December 2005. Heather is also an Environmental Justice Seat Alternate at Contra Costa County Hazardous Materials Commission and a Partner at Ninole Cacao LLC. Heather is also a founding board member and the Director of Redleaf Biologics.
Heather Youngs pursued a post-doctoral degree in plant biochemistry at Stanford University after receiving their PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology from OGI Oregon Graduate Institute/Oregon Health and Science University. Heather completed their undergraduate studies in biology at Michigan Technological University and attended Howell High School.
