James Slaughter has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. James currently serves as the Range Operations Manager at Shetland Space Centre since June 2021. Prior to this, they were the Director at Aronnax Space Ltd from January 2019 to January 2023. James also worked as the Associate Director at NLA International Ltd from January 2019 to November 2021.
Earlier in their career, James worked as a Solutions Architect at the University of Strathclyde from August 2016 to August 2019, where they focused on satellite-based services for sectors such as Aquaculture, offshore renewables, and digital health. Before that, they served as the Commercial Innovation Manager and Space Innovation Facilitator at the Satellite Applications Catapult from April 2015 to July 2016 and from March 2014 to March 2015, respectively.
James also has experience in the academic field, having been a student at the University of Bath from September 2012 to December 2013, where they pursued an MSc in Innovation and Technology Management.
Before transitioning to the space and technology industry, James served in the HM Forces in various roles. From July 2009 to July 2012, they were involved in training delivery and instruction on Joint Fires to personnel from the Royal Artillery as well as external units. James also served as a Fire Support Team (FST) Commander at 148 Commando Forward Observation Battery and as a Protocol Officer and Troop Commander. Additionally, they were part of the Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team (OMLT) in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

James Slaughter obtained a Bachelor's degree in Astrophysics and History from Keele University, with a 2:2 classification, from 1995 to 1999. In 2012, they enrolled at the University of Bath and completed their Master of Science (MS) degree in Innovation and Technology Management in 2013. Additionally, they obtained various certifications, including PRINCE 2 Practitioner from APMG-International in November 2014, Mountain Leader (Summer) from MLTE Board in July 2012, RYA Level II Dinghy from RYA in July 2012, APM Practitioner from the Association for Project Management in March 2012, and Managing Successful Programmes Practitioner from MSP in March 2012.
