Joey Nielson

Joey Nielson has an extensive work experience in the field of mechanical engineering. Joey is currently serving as the Director of Mechanical Engineering at Shield AI, where they oversee the execution of challenging mechanical design projects and applies engineering fundamentals to solve various problems. Prior to this, they worked as the Senior Engineering Manager - Mechanical and Mechanical Engineering Manager at the same company.

Before joining Shield AI, Joey worked at Freedom Innovations as a Senior Mechanical Engineer/Project Manager. Here, they led cross-functional project teams and managed design engineering projects for composites and hydraulics.

Joey also has experience working at TaylorMade-adidas Golf as a Senior Engineer, Advanced Design. Joey was responsible for searching and implementing new technologies into golf products, utilizing CAD and FEA for concept evaluation and prototyping.

During their time at BYU Mechanical Engineering, Joey served as a Graduate Research Assistant, where they conducted advanced fluid imaging techniques and computer vision/image processing applications. Joey also worked as a Research Assistant, setting up a fluid dynamics laboratory and assisting in research on internal waves in a stratified fluid.

Additionally, Joey has held positions as a CAD Engineer at Gordon's Action Products, Inc and as an R&D Engineering Intern at Novatek Inc, where they gained experience in CAD design, data analysis, and test fixture design.

Earlier in their career, Joey worked as a Web Support Clerk at the Howard W Hunter Law Library, where they handled website content updates and general website upkeep.

Joey Nielson has a M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University, which they obtained from 2011 to 2012. Prior to that, they completed their B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the same university between 2007 and 2011. Joey also pursued a Nanodegree in Android Basics from Udacity from 2017 to 2018. In 2014, they participated in a Certificate Course in Intellectual Property Law for Engineers at Purdue University. Joey started their education journey by earning a High School Diploma from Mt. Whitney High School between 2001 and 2005.
