Matthew Wylie has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. Matthew started their career at Origin Energy as an Engineering Services Design Engineer, where they designed compressed natural gas refuelling stations and coordinated maintenance for cogeneration plants. Wylie then moved to Mitsubishi Motors as a Powertrain Design Engineer, responsible for engine component design and coordination of Engine Management System development. Matthew later joined Ford Motor Company as a Powertrain Control Systems Engineer, managing the integration of vehicle control systems and designing safety critical systems. Matthew eventually became the Electrical and Electronic Systems Design Verification Manager at Ford, leading system verification and validation teams. Wylie then worked at Minelab Metal Detectors as a Senior Systems Engineer and Team Leader, leading the systems engineering process for new metal detection systems. Currently, Wylie is serving as the Head of Engineering at Shoal Group Pty Ltd, where they have held various leadership roles, including Head of Transport and Infrastructure and Head of Defence and Space.

Matthew Wylie pursued their education at the University of Adelaide, where they obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Automation Engineering from 1998 to 2001. Matthew later returned to the University of Adelaide to pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, which they completed between 2018 and 2021. Alongside their formal education, Matthew has also obtained various certifications. Matthew became a Chartered Professional Engineer in Mechatronics Engineering from Engineers Australia in September 2023. Additionally, they achieved Chartered Professional Engineer certifications in Leadership and Management, as well as Systems Engineering, from Engineers Australia in October 2021. Furthermore, Matthew holds a Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) certification from INCOSE, obtained in August 2016.
