Josh Visnaw

Project Manager, VoteFlare at Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School

Josh Visnaw has a diverse work experience in various roles and organizations. Starting from 2013, they worked as a Program Consultant for the Little Rock Promise Neighborhood, where they collaborated with different entities to address parent and family engagement in child development. In 2014, they served as a Field Manager for Peacework International in Belize, overseeing multiple field projects and coordinating logistics for community development projects.

From 2015 to 2016, Josh worked for Bernie 2016 in different capacities, including field organizer, regional field director, and state coordinator. Josh managed and recruited volunteers, coordinated large-scale rallies and community events, and strategized voter contact efforts. Simultaneously, they also served as a Franklin Project Ambassador for The Aspen Institute, promoting national service opportunities.

In 2016, Josh was a Fulbright Public Policy Fellow in Dili, Timor-Leste, working as a special assistant to the Secretary of Youth and Sport. Josh partnered with UNFPA for the creation of a National Youth Action Plan and collaborated with GIZ on civic education workshops.

Josh'swork at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)/Agora Food Studio in 2017 involved completing a study on improving livelihoods for rural youth in agriculture, facilitating community workshops, and organizing a youth workers symposium in Timor-Leste.

From 2018 to 2019, Josh worked as a Deputy Field Director for the Michigan Democratic Party, overseeing organizing staff and participating in leadership planning and coordination of field organizing programs. Josh then became a State Director for Bernie Sanders For President in 2019, collaborating with senior leadership on campaign strategy and leading grassroots organizing, communications, and political plans.

In 2020, they joined the Democratic Party of Wisconsin as a Regional Voter Activation Director, where they advised and coached organizing staff during GOTV efforts and managed operations and floor management for the Madison recount.

Currently, they are a Project Manager for VoteFlare at the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics, and Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School, starting in 2021.

Josh Visnaw earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Journalism from Central Michigan University in 2008. Josh then pursued further education at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service, where they earned a Master of Public Service degree between 2012 and 2014.
