Katy Lai has a diverse work experience. Katy started their career in 2000 with various production and stage management roles in Hong Kong and China. Katy then worked as a Production Director at ABA Productions Limited from 2006 to 2008. Katy also had a role as a Touring Production and Stage Manager from 2002 to 2008. In 2013, they worked as a Laundry and Wardrobe Attendant at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Currently, they are working at Showman Fabricators as a Project Management Coordinator since 2014. Their responsibilities include assisting the project manager, acting as a project manager for smaller projects, data analysis, and coordination of purchasing, shipping logistics, and on-site activities.

Katy Lai's education history begins with their completion of a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Technical Theatre/Theatre Design and Technology at The University of British Columbia, which they attended from 1996 to 2000. Katy furthered their education by pursuing a Professional Diploma in Stage Management at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts from 2001 to 2002. Lastly, they obtained a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Theatre and Design: Scenic Design from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where they studied from 2009 to 2012.
