SIC

SIC began broadcasting on October 6th, 1992, as the first private, independent and commercial television network operating in Portugal, putting an end to a 35 years state monopoly in Portuguese television. A strategic emphasis was placed on information, entertainment, documentaries and fiction programs including programs spoken in Portuguese. With this innovative approach to programs and a strong marketing campaign, SIC became market leader in 1995. SIC brought a valuable contribution to the liberty and independence of journalism in the Portuguese audiovisual universe bringing recognition in international forums as the television channel that became market leader in the shortest amount of time. SIC created a unique style that quickly became synonymous of independence, rigor and quality. SIC also took the lead being the first to launch cable/satellite channels in Portugal, currently broadcasting via SIC Internacional, SIC Notícias, SIC Radical, SIC Mulher and SIC K. SIC is part of the strongest Portuguese media group, Impresa. Impresa´s activities are divided in three main areas, television with SIC, print via Impresa Publishing and digital with Impresa Digital, encompassing the newspaper Expresso, an extensive portfolio of magazines, and internet brands.
