Juan C. Velez

Juan Carlos Velez, MSN, PMHNP-BC, joined Sierra Tucson in February 2018. Juan received both his masters of nursing and a nurse practitioner degree from Florida International University in Miami, Florida, graduating with honors. Earning his BSN degree from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, FL, Juan began his nursing career at a level-one trauma center in Fort Lauderdale, FL, where he gained valuable experience in multiple patient care areas. Juan’s dedication to his patients and his profession earned him national recognition in 2015 when he received the Daisy Award, an international merit recognition awarded to nurses for their excellent clinical skills, leadership, and compassionate care.

Juan’s enthusiasm for medical science and working with people drew him into the clinical setting. Seeing firsthand the unmet mental health issues that his patient population in an urban hospital environment faced, drew him to the areas of mental health and chemical dependency. Juan has served as a psychiatric nurse practitioner at mental health facilities in Delray Beach, FL, and Tucson, AZ, prior to joining Sierra Tucson. In his practice, Juan treats a wide range of mental, emotional, and behavioral conditions and issues with multiple evidence-based therapies and modalities. Juan is bilingual and provides services in both English and Spanish.
