Wei Liu

Wei Liu has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries.

Wei currently holds the position of Senior Director of Engineering at Sift, where they are responsible for overseeing engineering operations. Prior to that, they served as the Engineering Director (ML Platform, MLOps, and Data Science) at Sift, focusing on building a next-generation machine learning platform and addressing data drift problems at scale. Wei also served as the Engineering Director - Data Science and Head of Data Science at Sift, where they led data science teams and conducted research in fraud behavior analysis.

Before joining Sift, Wei Liu worked as a Principal Data Scientist at Sift, building AI models for spam and scam detection. Wei also provided technical guidance in machine learning system architecture and production deployment.

Wei Liu also has experience outside of Sift. Wei served as a Technical Advisor (Machine Learning) at Upnext, where they provided expertise in machine learning. Wei was also a Principal Machine Learning Engineer at Zillow, where they designed ML applications and improved home buying and selling decisions.

Prior to Zillow, Wei Liu worked at Microsoft as a Software Development Engineer, where they focused on natural language processing, machine learning, and Big Data technologies. Wei was involved in Bing Local Data extraction and PowerBI natural language query engine projects.

Wei Liu also worked at Amazon as a Software Development Engineer, developing intelligent systems to improve Amazon catalog item data. Wei has experience in programming languages such as Java and Python and processing Big Data on platforms like Amazon EMR.

Earlier in their career, Wei Liu was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where they conducted research in the field of graphics modeling. Wei also worked as a Doctoral Student & Teaching Assistant at the Florida Institute of Technology, where they published several papers and developed novel graphics models and image registration methods.

Before pursuing their doctoral studies, Wei Liu worked as a Research Engineer at Zhong Tu Sci & Tech Ltd, where they researched and developed machine vision algorithms for product-inspection systems and led a software group. During their time there, they successfully shipped three products related to industrial meter calibration.

Wei Liu completed a Ph.D. in Computer Science at the Florida Institute of Technology from 2007 to 2011. Prior to that, they obtained a Master's degree in Computer Science from Central South University, which they pursued from 2003 to 2006.
