Kabir started their career as an Independent Journalist, writing essays and reported stories on various topics such as food systems, agriculture, poverty, climate change, and energy transitions. During this time, they also hosted the Unequal podcast and wrote the Unequal newsletter centered around themes of inequality globally.

In 2015, Kabir worked as a Research Associate for Nivara Hakk Sangharsh Samiti, where they conducted research on affordable housing in Mumbai, co-authored a book titled 'Chasing The Affordable Dream: A Plan to House Mumbai's Millions.'
Between 2012 and 2015, Kabir worked as a Research Associate at the Vibhooti Shukla Centre for Urban Economics and Regional Development, University of Mumbai. Here, they worked on projects related to urban infrastructure finance and urban governance.
