Felipe Perez

Felipe Perez is the current VP of Machine Learning at Signal 1. Prior to that, they were a Senior Machine Learning Research Scientist at Layer 6 AI from February 2019 to June 2022. Felipe was also a Data Scientist at Zero Gravity Labs from December 2017 to February 2019. At Zero Gravity Labs, they conducted research in cutting-edge technologies and algorithms, exploiting their advantages for potential applications in LoyaltyOne. This included implementing and adapting state-of-the-art Few-Shots learning model to tackle the cold start problem, testing the application of quantum computers in industry data modeling, evaluating its current efficiency, advantages/disadvantages, and potential applications via developing a Bayesian Network structure learning algorithm run via simulation in Spark, iterating on a Node2Vec model and implementing it in Spark/Scala to create vector representations of products and customers, and presenting results in written reports and oral presentations. Felipe also led and mentored groups of co-op students on projects and professional developments, such as a classical Bayesian Network structure learning algorithm using functional programming, a health information app for android devices created using AWS Mobile Hub, Dynamo DB, and Lambda Functions in conjunction with API calls to cloud services, and an AR game using Unity and Android Studio.

Felipe Perez has a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Michigan, a Master's Degree in Mathematics from Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Universidad Nacional de Colombia.

They work with Alice Yang - VP of Finance & HR, Bo Wang - VP of Platforms and Delivery, and Mara Lederman - Chief Operating Officer. Felipe Perez reports to Tomi Poutanen, Chief Executive Officer.
