Laurel Schaider

Research Scientist at Silent Spring Institute

Laurel Schaider has worked in the public health and environmental engineering fields since 2003. Laurel began their career as a Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at MIT. Laurel then moved to Northeastern University in 2004, where they were a Lecturer in the same department. In 2005, they became a Research Associate at the Harvard School of Public Health, where they were the Principal Investigator on a mercury exposure project. In 2007, they were a Guest Lecturer at the Cyprus International Institute and the Harvard School of Public Health. Since 2009, they have been a Research Scientist at the Silent Spring Institute, where they have designed and implemented a Cape Cod-wide study to assess potential health effects of pharmaceuticals, personal care products, and wastewater contaminants in public and private wells.

Laurel Schaider received their Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology between 1993 and 1997. Laurel then continued their studies at the University of California, Berkeley, where they obtained their Master of Science in Environmental Engineering in 1998. In 2003, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
