Mauricio Palma

Director, Community-Building at Silicon Valley Community Foundation

SVCF Director of Community-Building Mauricio Palma has held several integral positions at the foundation since joining in 2005. As a member of the Community Action Team, Mauricio leads the arts and culture, faith, local journalism, and neighborhoods grants programs. Using a racial justice and equity lens, he works with community leaders, donors, and other funders to identify and support ideas, and catalyze and amplify community-driven solutions. Prior to his transition to SVCF’s Community Action Team, Mauricio led several initiatives in the areas of social innovation, community building, community news and civic engagement designed to build purposeful and impactful relationships with local, regional and national partners addressing the region’s most challenging problems. In addition, he developed and coordinated special projects created to impact factors critical to a child's education, including family practices, early care and learning programs, the school system and the community at large.

An immigrant from Nicaragua, he graduated from Mission High School in San Francisco, California. He has a bachelor's in Latin American Studies from University of California, Santa Cruz, and a Master of Arts in History from San Francisco State University.

Mauricio enjoys hiking while contemplating of the early morning sky, capturing a verse, hanging on to the light with his camera or painting on discarded materials. Most of all, he treasures time with his family.
