Babak Daneshrad has a strong background in the field of wireless communications and semiconductor technology. Babak founded Silvus Technologies, Inc. in 2004 and served as the CEO and Founder & Chairman until November 2019. Under their leadership, the company experienced significant growth in revenue, from $300k in 2005 to over $30M in 2019. Babak also oversaw the successful sale of a majority stake in the company to The Jordan Company. Babak played a key role in developing technologically advanced wireless systems based on MIMO techniques and implemented a funding strategy to achieve organic growth without outside funding. Babak established various organizational functions within the company.
Prior to their role at Silvus Technologies, Inc., Babak worked at UCLA Electrical Eng. Dept. from 1996 to November 2019. Initially employed as an Assistant & Associate Professor, they eventually became a Full Professor. During their time at UCLA, they published 250 peer-reviewed publications in various disciplines, ranging from integrated circuits to theoretical communications. Babak also supervised and graduated numerous PhD and MS students in the field of circuit design and communication theory.
Before joining UCLA, Babak served as the Founder & Chief Scientist at Innovics Wireless, a semiconductor company focused on developing 3G WCDMA baseband VLSI ASICs. Babak raised over $14M in venture financing and led the development of the first-ever diversity-enabled WCDMA mobile terminal IC, which received significant customer orders and verified interoperability with Ericsson Base Station equipment.
Babak's earlier experience includes working as a Member of the Technical Staff at AT&T Bell Labs from 1993 to 1996, where they contributed to system design for high-speed wireless indoor communications and prototyped high-speed wireless communication technologies. Babak also worked as an intern at Pairgain in 1989.
Currently, Babak holds the position of Professor Emeritus at UCLA Electrical Eng. Dept., starting in November 2019. Overall, their work experience demonstrates their expertise in wireless communications, semiconductor technology, and academic research.
Babak Daneshrad pursued their education with utmost dedication and achieved significant milestones in their academic journey. In 1982, they enrolled at McGill University, where they completed their Master of Science in Engineering degree in Communications in 1988. Later, in 1993, they attended UCLA and obtained their PhD degree in Information, Computer, and Systems (IC&S) after a year of intensive study. These educational undertakings underscore their commitment to acquiring a strong foundation and expertise in their field of study.
