Yingchao "YZ" then attended the University of Science and Technology of China from 1981 to 1986, earning a B.S. in ultra low temperature physics. Afterwards, they went to Stony Brook University from 1989 to 1995, where they obtained a Ph.D. in High Energy Nuclear Physics. Finally, they completed a Post-Doc at Columbia University in 1996.
