Henk-Jan Scholten

Co-Founder & COO at Siren

Henk-Jan Scholten is a Dutch lawyer and social entrepreneur who is currently the Co-Founder and COO of Siren, a company that helps turn the most promising and disruptive ideas into effective innovations by bringing together the best legal experts, cutting-edge technology, and new types of funding. Prior to their work with Siren, Scholten was a Blue Book Trainee with the European Commission's Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). Henk-Jan was also a student at Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, where they were shortlisted for a PhD proposal on juridification of society and origins of conflict-solving systems in Western legal history. In 2014, Scholten began working as a Justice Sector Advisor for HiiL, an organization that works to build the next generation of new and original procedures that help solve justice-related problems experienced by citizens. During their time with HiiL, Scholten worked on ACT (Action, Collaboration, Transformation), an initiative between international brands & retailers, manufacturers, and trade unions to address the issue of living wages in the textile and garment supply chain. Henk-Jan also worked on SME legal empowerment with Ford Foundation East and West Africa.

Henk-Jan Scholten attended the Gymnasium Celeanum before studying for a Ba in Henk-Jan'story at the University of Groningen. Henk-Jan then studied for an LLB in International & European Law at the University of Groningen and an LLB in Law as part of an Erasmus exchange at the University of Surrey. Henk-Jan completed their education with an LLM in International & European Law from the University of Groningen.
