Ruth Mathews

Ruth Mathews is a Senior Manager at the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) in the Water Resource Department, leveraging over two decades of experience in sustainable water resource use and management. Ruth's expertise encompasses the impacts of human activities on riverine, coastal, and marine ecosystems, contributing to various projects aimed at improving governance and implementing innovative solutions. Previously, Ruth served as Chief Policy Advisor and Executive Director at the Water Footprint Network, significantly expanding organizational impact and leading a multicultural team. Ruth has also held roles at the Worldwide Fund for Nature, where strategic management was facilitated for climate and energy programs, and founded River Matters, providing technical and policy services for ecologically sustainable water management. Ruth's educational background includes a Master of Science in Water Resources Management and Planning from Colorado State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Evolving Structures: Earth Politics and the Creative Spirit from Fairhaven College, Western Washington University.
