Ulrich Frei is Director of FUNDES International, Costa Rica, a private, pioneering organization founded in 1984 with the objective to strengthen and develop micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises (MSME’s) in Latin America. As the Executive Director of FUNDES since 2008, Ulrich has led the transformation process in FUNDES from a purely philanthropic organization to a profit-oriented, but mission driven leading business solution for improving the competitiveness of Latin America’s MSMEs, with a presence in 13 countries in the region. Since June 2016 Ulrich serves as Director of the Board of FUNDES.

Prior to his tenure at FUNDES International, Ulrich occupied senior management positions at Senn Chemicals, Química Suiza, Novartis and CIBA–GEIGY. He has worked and lived for over 20 years in Chile, Venezuela, Peru, Costa Rica, Indonesia and China.
