Senior Embedded Systems Engineer at SkySpecs

Joe Griffin has a diverse range of work experience in the engineering field. Joe is currently working at SkySpecs as a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer since January 2023. Prior to that, they worked at SunPower Corporation as a Control Firmware Engineer from October 2018 to December 2022.

Before their time at SunPower, Joe worked at General Motors as an Advanced Battery Algorithm Engineer from February 2017 to October 2018. In this role, they led an international team to develop battery controls software for a new vehicle architecture. Joe also designed and implemented algorithms to improve battery performance and state estimation.

Joe also has experience working at BOLT at Virginia Tech, where they were a Controls Team Member and later the Controls Team Lead from August 2014 to December 2016. During this time, they contributed to various projects related to controls systems.

Joe further gained industry exposure through an internship at General Motors as a Powertrain Engineering Intern from June to August 2016. In this role, they developed a model to predict the effect of propulsion system design changes on warranty cost and designed a dual traction DC motor controller for the intern power racing team.

Additionally, Joe interned at Kollmorgen as an AKD Firmware Intern from January to August 2015. Joe was responsible for writing and improving tests to support the AKD firmware team, finding and fixing firmware bugs, and managing an automated test system.

Prior to their internships, Joe gained experience as an IT Infrastructure Intern at OSEHRA (Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance) from June 2013 to December 2014. In this role, they maintained databases, website front-end and back-end, and user records. Joe also redesigned the website layout and theme to improve user experience. Joe worked with various software and languages including Linux, Drupal, CiviCRM, PuttY, MySQL, PHP, HTML, and CSS.
