Piotr Kasper

R&D and Innovation Scientist at Skytree

Piotr Kasper is a R&D and Innovation Scientist at Skytree. Piotr also previously founded Giaura B.V., and has worked as a System Engineer for the European Space Agency and an Education Officer for UKSEDS - UK Students for the Exploration and Development of Space.

Piotr has always been interested in space and technology. Piotr studied Aerospace Engineering at university, and then went on to work for the European Space Agency as a System Engineer on their Young Graduate Trainee programme. It was during this time that they developed an interest in atmospheric CO2-capture, which led him to leave the ESA and start Giaura B.V.

Giaura B.V. uses an atmospheric CO2-capture process developed for spacecraft life-support systems by the European Space Agency to enrich greenhouse environments and serve as CO2-supply for beverage & food companies. Carbon Dioxide is widely regarded as a waste stream, but in 2010 over 12M tons (equivalent annual emissions of 2M cars) were used in these applications.

As the technical co-founder of Giaura, Piotr's role includes the testing and development of the company’s optimised atmospheric CO2-capture process. Day-to-day activities include procuring parts & assembling them as test and demonstration set-ups, managing the development of data acquisitions tools, undertaking material characterization test campaigns using ESA laboratory facilities, writing test reports, assessing the costs involved in the larger-scale processes, and interfacing with potential clients to assess their requirements.

Piotr Kasper has a MSc in Physics from the University of Warwick and has completed 12 ECTS credits in Manned Spaceflight & Space Science and Cold Phenomena in the Arctic from Umeå University. Piotr has also completed the International Baccalaureate with a focus in Physics (HL), Economics (HL), Mathematics (HL) from Vienna International School.
