Wieland Sommer has had a diverse work experience spanning multiple roles and companies. In 2007, they started as a Resident in Radiology at LMU - Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and later became an Assistant Professor in Radiology from 2012 to 2013. In 2013, they became an Associate Professor in Radiology at Ludwig-Maximilians Universität München until 2014. In 2014, they joined LMU - Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München as a Professor in Radiology and also founded Smart Reporting GmbH, where they held the position of Founder and CEO. In 2016, they founded Planerio GmbH and became a Founder and Board Member. Additionally, they pursued a Master's in Public Health at Harvard School of Public Health from 2011 to 2013.

Wieland Sommer's education history begins in 1996 when they attended St. Columbas College in Dublin, where they earned a Leaving Certificate in 1998. Wieland returned to Humboldt-Universität from 2003 to 2007 and completed a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) at the Berlin Neuroimaging Center with a specialization in Cognitive Neuroscience.

Moving forward, Wieland Sommer pursued further education in Switzerland at the University of Lausanne - UNIL from 2006 to 2007, concentrating on Medicine. Wieland then transitioned to Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2011, graduating with a Master's degree in Public Health. Wieland returned to Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2012 and studied Public Health until 2013.
