David Knowlton has worked in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry since 2007. David began their career at EPIX Pharmaceuticals as an Associate Scientist, where they were the lead biologist on a Neuropeptide S (NPS) program. In 2008, they joined Pfizer as a Scientist and eventually became a Senior Scientist and team leader of the Endosomal escape assay development group. In 2011, they joined RaNA Therapeutics as a Scientist II and eventually became a Senior Scientist, where they were responsible for heading the In Vitro Biology group and Optimization team. In 2016, they moved to Homology Medicines, Inc. as a Research Scientist, where they were responsible for sourcing CROs, developing assays, and gene editing metrics to assess novel AAVs. Currently, they are the Associate Director of Research and Development at SmartPharm Therapeutics, Inc., where they are responsible for R&D strategy, planning, and oversight, as well as sourcing and screening Lipid Nanoparticle and Block polymer formulations.
David Knowlton obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan in 1996. David then went on to earn a Master's degree in Biotechnology from Harvard University in 2021.
