Daniel Polfer

Senior Vice President Of Engineering at SmartRent

Daniel Polfer began their career in 1991 as a Sr. Systems Engineer at Intergraph, where they focused on software engineering and graphics peripheral evaluation. Daniel then worked as a Software Engineer II at Adaptec, where they developed tools for Easy CD Creator and EZ-SCSI software. In 1995, they founded their own consulting practice called Moxie Technologies, specializing in low-level peripheral I/O software and device drivers.

From 1995 to 2000, Polfer worked as a Firmware Engineer at Distributed Processing Technology (DPT), maintaining firmware for caching RAID host bus adapters. Daniel then joined Musicmatch as the VP OEM Software Engineering, managing a team and delivering customized builds for partners. After Yahoo! acquired Musicmatch, Polfer became the Director of Engineering, leading the integration of Musicmatch Jukebox components into the Yahoo! Music Engine and introducing Agile methodologies.

Polfer joined Voxeo in 2007 as the SVP Engineering, overseeing hosted and premise unified communications efforts. Daniel managed a distributed team of 40 engineers and championed the use of Amazon Web Services for new offerings. In 2013, following the acquisition of Voxeo by Aspect, Polfer became the VP Engineering, planning and implementing Voxeo engineering integration into Aspect R&D.

In 2014, Polfer joined SightPlan as the CTO, where they worked until 2022. During their tenure, they held leadership responsibility for technology strategy and oversaw engineering operations.

In November 2022, Polfer joined SmartRent as the Senior Vice President of Engineering, taking on a senior leadership role within the company.

Daniel Polfer completed their education with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Rollins College, where they attended from 1998 to 2000. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer & Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute between 1986 and 1990. In addition to their formal education, Daniel Polfer has also received the ITIL Foundation certification from EXIN, although the specific month and year of obtaining this certificate are not provided.
