Frank Hunleth began their work experience as an intern at IBM in 1995 and then returned as an intern again in 1996. Frank later worked as a Staff Engineer at SALIX Technologies, where they designed core call setup and teardown software for a voice over IP gateway. Frank then joined Hillcrest Laboratories, Inc. as a Senior Manager, where they designed the core set top box framework and led its implementation on customer devices. Frank also developed integration strategies and APIs for enabling Freespace technology. Frank went on to work as a Senior Software Engineer at LKC Technologies, responsible for the architecture, design, and development of the RETeval diabetic retinopathy screening device. In 2010, they founded Troodon Software LLC, providing embedded Linux consulting and development services. Frank also served as the President of Make a Difference Engine, Inc., a non-profit organization supporting CoderDojoDC. Currently, Frank is the Director of Hardware Engineering at smartrent.

Frank Hunleth obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Northwestern University, where they studied from 1993 to 1997. Frank then pursued a Master of Science degree in Computer Science at Washington University in St. Louis from 2000 to 2002. Prior to their college education, Frank attended St. Louis University High from 1989 to 1993, where they did not obtain a degree nor specify a field of study.
