Trustee at Smith College

Margaret Wurtele is a trustee at Smith College and a former community innovation consultant with the Social Entrepreneur Corps. Margaret has also worked as a design and fabrication research and development liaison with Smith College and as a dog walker/sitter with Paws Up Pet Care. In addition, they have served as an adaptive design project team member and leader with Scarsdale High School AT Entrepreneurship.

Margaret is a creative problem solver with experience in design thinking and Spanish language skills. Margaret has a strong commitment to helping others and improving their community. In their previous role as a community innovation consultant, they helped develop new ways to allow students to get a fulfilling and rewarding education during the height of the COVID pandemic. As a design and fabrication research and development liaison, they worked with Smith College to develop new products and solutions. In their role as a dog walker/sitter, they provided care and companionship to pets while their owners were away. As an adaptive design project team leader, they helped students create new devices to improve the lives of people with disabilities.

Margaret is passionate about using their skills and experiences to help others. Margaret is an innovative thinker who is always looking for new ways to make a positive impact on their community.

Margaret Wurtele began their educational career with a Pre-College Program Certificate in Fine/Studio Arts from Purchase College, SUNY. Margaret then earned their High School Diploma from Scarsdale High School. Next, they completed their Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Smith College. After that, they earned another Pre-College Program Certificate, this time in Cinematography and Film/Video Production, also from Purchase College, SUNY. Finally, they have several certifications from Traliant in Creating a Respectful Remote Workplace: Employees, Cultural Competency and Humility, Diversity, Inclusion, Sensitivity & Racism, JB&B Code of Ethics and Business Conduct, and Microaggressions in the Workplace.
