Lars van der Lely

R&D Project Developer at Sobolt

Lars van der Lely has a diverse and extensive work experience. In 2018, they co-founded a 3D printing company called 3Delft Printing and played a role as a Co-Founder until November 2020. During this time, Lars gained valuable knowledge in various areas such as logistics, 3D printing, management, and customer satisfaction. From September 2020 to November 2021, Lars continued to contribute to 3Delft Printing as a member of the Supervisory Board, providing guidance to the new students who took over the company.

In 2021, Lars joined Tomatoworld as a RoboCrops Hackathon Event Organizer, where they organized a two-day hackathon focused on the use of data in the horticulture industry. Lars was responsible for the Run of Show and creating the assignment for the participants.

Lars also worked at the TU Delft AgTech Institute in 2021 as a Project Manager. In this role, they led a multidisciplinary student team in developing a framework that classifies greenhouses based on their level of automation.

At TU Delft, Lars held two roles. From June 2021 to November 2021, they served as the Team Captain for team LetTUceWin!, participating in the Autonomous Greenhouse Challenge, where they utilized machine learning and computer vision techniques to autonomously grow virtual lettuce crops. Lars also worked as a Mentor Vision Document from September 2021 to October 2022, assisting MSc Robotics students with their personal development and facilitating discussions.

Most recently, Lars joined Sobolt in October 2022 as an R&D Project Developer. In this role, they are responsible for hardware development and production for multiple computer vision-based solutions in the horticultural department, Plantfellow. Sobolt focuses on building solutions for a sustainable future and collaborates with customers and partners on green community initiatives.

Lars van der Lely's education history is as follows:

From 2011 to 2017, Lars attended Gymnasium Novum, where they obtained their VWO degree with a focus on Natuur en techniek & gezondheid.

In 2017, Lars enrolled at Delft University of Technology and pursued a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering until 2020.

During their time at Delft University of Technology, Lars also completed a Minor Project Management program in 2019.

Following their undergraduate studies, Lars continued their education at Delft University of Technology and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Robotics, starting in 2020 and expected to complete in 2022.

Additionally, Lars obtained a certification as a Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate (CSWA) from the SolidWorks Authorized Training Centre in January 2018.
