Annette Thompson

Annette Thompson has a diverse work experience spanning multiple roles and industries. Annette founded their own company, Annette Thompson, Travel Journalist, LLC, in 2009, where they serve as the owner, editor, writer, and photographer. An expert in US and European travel, Annette conducts research, photographs, and writes travel stories for various publications.

Prior to this, Annette held the position of Past President at the Society of American Travel Writers, starting in 2000. Annette also worked at Southern Living from 1993 to 2010 in multiple roles, including Associate Travel Editor and Senior Copy editor. In these roles, they covered travel stories for the Southern Atlantic States and oversaw editorial lineups for regional magazines.

Annette's early career includes teaching roles at the University of Alabama, the University of Alabama Birmingham, and Jefferson State Community College as an Instructor from 1988 to 1993. Before that, they gained valuable experience as an Editor at Oxmoor House from 1979 to 1984, focusing on cookbooks and other general interest titles. In this position, they managed editorial timelines, oversaw photography, edited text and wrote copy, and coordinated with graphic designers and production teams.

Annette Thompson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Stetson University, where they attended from 1985 to 1988. Annette later pursued further education and obtained a Master of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, completing their studies from 1990 to 1992.
