Software Engineer at Soft Robotics

Junhua Tang has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles. Junhua is currently working as a Software Engineer at Soft Robotics Inc. since March 2021. Before that, they worked at Aptiv from September 2019 to February 2021, where they held the positions of Product Owner and Algorithm Engineer. Junhua also worked as a Mentor at Udacity from July 2019 to March 2020.

Prior to these roles, Junhua had an extensive tenure at General Motors, starting as a Software Engineer (Contract with USG Inc.) from February 2013 to November 2014. Junhua then worked as a Vehicle System Engineer from November 2014 to November 2017, and later became an Advanced Feature Owner from November 2017 to July 2019, where they focused on developing deep learning-based object detection algorithms for active safety advanced features (ADAS).

Before joining General Motors, Junhua worked as a Research Intern at Bosch North America from June 2012 to October 2012, where they developed a novel portable device for lateral flow measurement of blood samples and coded a user interface with camera control and Bluetooth functions.

Junhua also gained research experience at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, The Ohio State University, where they worked as a Research Associate from September 2007 to August 2012. During this time, they developed ultrasound algorithms and systems for measuring ocular tissue deformation due to diseases and conducted experimental validation and software simulation. Junhua also conducted finite element modeling of soft tissue strain using COMSOL. Additionally, they worked as a Teaching Assistant at the same department from March 2009 to June 2009.

Junhua Tang's work experience also includes a teaching assistant role at the Chemistry department, The Ohio State University, from September 2009 to January 2010. Prior to their studies in the United States, they worked as a Research Assistant at the Biomedical Engineering, Zhejiang University, from September 2006 to June 2007, where they developed algorithms for analyzing cardiovascular risk factors and led a team in implementing a portable ECG monitoring system.

Junhua Tang obtained their Ph.D in Biomedical Engineering from The Ohio State University from 2007 to 2012. They also earned their M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from The Ohio State University from 2007 to 2010. Prior to that, Junhua attended Zhejiang University, where they completed their B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from 2002 to 2007. In addition to their formal education, Junhua obtained certifications in Self-Driving Car Engineering from Udacity in April 2019 and in Machine Learning from Coursera in April 2017.
