Aaron Birkland

Aaron Birkland is an experienced software engineer and technical lead with a background in developing microservice-based architectures, APIs, and knowledge graph infrastructures.

Aaron began their career in 2002 as a Programmer/Analyst II with Cornell University's Department of Computer and Information Science, where they designed, developed, and supported in production the knowledge graph infrastructure for an online biological data integration platform known as "Biozon".

In 2006, Aaron joined the Center for Advanced Computing at Cornell University as a Consultant/Advisor Spec. During their time there, they wrote and presented workshops on vectorization, profiling, debugging, and parallel visualization. Aaron also tested and characterized the performance of pre-release Intel Xeon Phi coprocesors.

In 2015, Aaron joined The Johns Hopkins University as a Senior Software Engineer for the Digital Research and Curation Center. During their time there, they proposed a docker-based development workflow and CI/CD pipeline for existing microservice-based stacks. Aaron also engaged directly with vendors and contractors to bring in expertise or additional labor for projects.

Most recently, in 2021, Aaron joined solo.io as a Technical Lead and Software Engineer for Gloo Mesh.

Aaron Birkland attended Cornell University from 1998 to 2002, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics/Applied Physics.
