Director Of Collaboratives at Solutions Journalism Network

Amy Maestas has a diverse work experience that spans over several decades. Amy is currently the Director of Collaboratives at the Solutions Journalism Network, a position they have held since July 2022. Prior to this, they were the Region Collaborative Manager at the same organization from July 2020 to July 2022.

Additionally, Amy gained valuable research experience as a Knight-Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan from August 2016 to May 2017, where they focused on studying new business models for local for-profit media.

Earlier in their career, Amy worked as a Freelance Writer for The Durango Telegraph and W.I.G. from 1996 to 2012. Amy also served as a Contributing Editor at Inside Outside Magazine from 2000 to 2010, where they wrote magazine-length features and maintained a daily blog.

Amy's expertise extends beyond journalism as they worked as a Technical Writer at Verint Video Solutions from 1999 to 2006, where they were responsible for writing technical documentation for digital video surveillance system software. Amy also gained experience in managing a newspaper as the Managing Editor of The Event, an alternative news, arts, and entertainment newspaper, where they oversaw daily operations and increased circulation.

Amy Maestas has a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Utah. From 2016 to 2017, they were a Knight-Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan, specializing in their field of study.
