Joel Cannon

Joel Cannon is an experienced professional in the surety industry, currently serving as the Assistant Vice President - Surety at Sompo International since January 2023. Prior to this role, Cannon was a Senior Surety Underwriting Specialist at Philadelphia Insurance Companies from April 2018 to January 2023, where there was enthusiasm for the company’s legacy and future. Previously, as Senior Vice President - Surety at Willis Towers Watson, Cannon led the Surety Practice for Alabama and Georgia while managing a significant business portfolio. An extensive background in contract surety was developed at The Hartford from 1998 to 2011, along with active participation in the Surety Association of Georgia. Cannon began a career in education as a Mathematics Teacher at Polk County School Board from 1993 to 1998, teaching various levels from Algebra I to AP Statistics. Educational credentials include a BS in Secondary Mathematics Education from the University of South Florida and an AA in Materials Science Engineering from the University of Florida.
