Rick Weyerhaeuser

Senior Natural Resource Strategist Director at Sonen Capital

Rick Weyerhaeuser brings over thirty-five years of conservation and natural resource experience from both the for-profit and non-profit sectors. He adds depth to Sonen’s real asset team while focusing on natural resources.

Previously, Rick founded Sustainable Resource Fund (SRF), a private equity investment firm, targeting sustainable investments in working lands and other natural resources. Prior to SRF, Rick was a Director of The Lyme Timber Company for twelve years where he authored “An Introduction to Timberland Investment” and was responsible for investor relations and the development of conservation-related investment opportunities. While at Lyme, he was a founding board and former Executive Committee member of the National Alliance of Forest Owners (NAFO).

Prior to joining Lyme, Rick worked for The Pinchot Institute for Conservation and The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to develop and promote sustainable forestry programs in the United States. He is a former State Director of the Massachusetts Chapter of The Nature Conservancy (TNC), and for ten years was the Director of the World Wildlife Fund’s Africa Program.

Rick is a past board member of the Seventh American Forest Congress, the Student Conservation Association, the Minnesota Chapter of the TNC, and the Forest History Society. He also serves on the boards of Keweenaw Land Association, Ltd, the first publicly traded company to have it’s forest management practices certified under the guidelines of the Forest Stewardship Council, The Center for Large Landscape Conservation, The New England Forestry Foundation, Friends of the Kenya Wildlife Trust, and is a member of the Leadership Council for the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.

Rick earned a B.S. from Yale University and a Master of Forest Science from Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Sciences and speaks passable Swahili.
