Julie Swidler

EVP, Business Affairs & General Counsel at Sony Music Entertainment

Julie Swidler is currently the EVP of Business Affairs and General Counsel at Sony Music Entertainment. Julie has over two decades of experience in the music industry, having served as the Senior Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs at both RCA Music Group and J Records LLC. In their current role, Julie oversees all legal and business affairs for Sony Music Entertainment, including negotiating and drafting artist contracts, joint venture labels, film and television production agreements, licensing and distribution agreements, publishing agreements, employment agreements, and overseeing outside counsel on royalty issues.

Julie has achieved many notable successes during their career in the music industry. In 2004, they joined BMG - The New Music Company as their Executive Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs. During their time there, they led a committee which centralised key functions and saved the company over $3M per year. In addition, they have also overseen the negotiation and drafting of 100’s of artist contracts, joint venture labels, film and television production agreements, licensing and distribution agreements, publishing agreements, and employment agreements.

Julie Swidler attended Union College for their Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Government. Julie then attended Cardozo School of Law for their Doctor of Law (JD).

Julie Swidler works with Melissa Thomas - EVP of International Marketing, U.S. Repertoire, David Massey - President and CEO, Arista Records, and Tom MacKay - President, Premium Content, Sony Music Entertainment.
