Doug Bortner, CFA, FRM has extensive work experience in risk management, valuations, and ESG within the alternative asset management industry. Doug has served as the Senior Director Head of Risk, ESG, and Valuations at Sound Point Capital Management since 2015, overseeing portfolios with combined assets of over $50 billion across various strategies. In this role, they have been responsible for managing firmwide committees and driving strategic decision-making processes. Prior to that, Doug worked at J.P. Morgan in a Firmwide Market Risk role from 2012 to 2015, and at UBS Investment Bank in Credit Flow Trading Valuations from 2011 to 2012. Before that, they were at UniCredit Markets & Investment Banking in a Credit Policy and Portfolio Reporting role from January to June 2011. Additionally, Doug had internships at UBS Financial Services Inc in Wealth Management during the summers of 2008 and 2009.
Doug Bortner, CFA, FRM, obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics-Finance from Bentley University, where they studied from 2006 to 2010. In 2018, they completed a CEU course on Data Mining, Predictive Analytics, and Big Data at New York University. Doug also pursued a Data Science and Machine Learning module at WorldQuant University and studied Python for Financial Analysis and Algorithmic Trading at Udemy Academy during the same year. In 2019, they further expanded their knowledge by completing a Python for Data Science and Machine Learning Bootcamp at Udemy Academy. In 2021, Doug obtained a certificate in ESG Investing from the CFA Institute. Additionally, they hold the Certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation from the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP), which they obtained in 2016, and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation from the CFA Institute, which they obtained in 2014.
