Elizabeth Chew currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the South Carolina Historical Society since January 2024. Prior to this position, Elizabeth held significant roles including Executive Vice President and Chief Curator at The Montpelier Foundation from August 2015 to December 2023, and Betsy Main Babcock Director of the Curatorial and Education Division at Reynolda House Museum of American Art from February 2013 to July 2015. Elizabeth's extensive experience in the art sector also encompasses a role as Curator at the Thomas Jefferson Foundation for 13 years, as well as earlier positions at The Phillips Collection, National Gallery of Art, and Smithsonian American Art Museum. Academic credentials include a PhD in History of Art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master of Arts from The Courtauld Institute of Art, and a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University.
