Michael Kunkel

Michael Kunkel has a diverse work experience in the banking industry, spanning over 20 years. Michael currently holds the position of Senior Vice President at South Story Bank & Trust since January 2023. Prior to that, they served as the President at Iowa State Bank from May 2022 to January 2023. Michael also worked as the SVP Regional President at Citizens Community Federal from March 2018 to May 2022 and as the President at Pioneer Bank from December 2015 to March 2018. Before joining Pioneer Bank, they served as the Vice President of Lending at Community Bank Mankato from April 2013 to December 2015 and as the Vice President at First State Bank of Le Center from September 2007 to April 2013. Michael began their career at Wells Fargo as a Personal Banker from September 2006 to August 2007. Prior to entering the banking industry, they gained management experience as a Store Assistant Manager at Scheels from July 2001 to September 2006.

Michael Kunkel started their education journey at Minnesota State University, Mankato, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Geography and Aviation. Michael attended this university from 1999 to 2003.

After completing their undergraduate degree, Michael Kunkel enrolled in the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. From 2013 to 2015, they studied at this institution and obtained a Diploma of Graduation with a focus on Banking Leadership.
