Joe Russell has over 15 years of work experience in the mining industry. Joe started their career at BHP Billiton in 2005 as a Mining Engineer Vacation Student and then worked as a Mine Planning Vacation Student in 2006. Joe continued their career at BHP Billiton and held various roles such as Mining Engineer, Senior Operations Engineer, Supervisor Haulage, Senior Production Engineer, Superintendent Production & Haulage, and Superintendent Analysis & Improvement (Mining). In 2015, Joe joined South32 as the Superintendent Analysis & Improvement (Mining) and progressed to roles such as Manager Production (Mining), Operations Manager Mining, and currently serves as the Vice President of Operations.
Joe Russell completed their Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree with a major in Mining and Mineral Engineering at UNSW Mining Engineering from 2004 to 2007. Joe also received an Honours degree (BEng Hons.2) in Mining from UNSW during the same period. Additionally, Joe obtained certifications such as the First Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency from the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy in Queensland in 2019, and from the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety in Western Australia in 2016.
