D. Lee McDaniel

Director of Glaucoma Services at SouthEast Eye Specialists

Dr. McDaniel, who is one of Tennessee’s most prolific cataract surgeons, provides advanced techniques and knowledge in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma. These techniques include trabeculoplasty, glaucoma tube shunts, trabeculectomy, and MIGS. Having performed nearly 35,000 surgeries as of 2020, Dr. McDaniel is skilled in laser assisted cataract surgery and in the use of all the latest specialty lenses to correct astigmatism and presbyopia. Dr. McDaniel enjoys working closely with optometric physicians to provide surgical and consultative services to patients throughout East Tennessee.

While in medical school, he was in the AOA Honor Society and received the Merck Manual Award for a scholarship. After graduating, Dr. McDaniel began his practice in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1994 where he served as an assistant clinical instructor at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and a participant in the American Glaucoma Society.

He and his wife Chris reside in Knoxville and have two children. Dr. McDaniel enjoys traveling, hiking, boating, and cycling. He is a faithful member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church where he is involved in missions.

Dr. McDaniel joined SouthEast Eye Specialists in 2008.
