Zachary S. McCarty

Director of Health Information Technology (IT) at SouthEast Eye Specialists

Dr. McCarty spends his time providing consultative eye care for adults at SouthEast Eye Specialists. His adult practice concentrates on neuro-ophthalmic conditions, cataract diagnosis and management, glaucoma treatment, and acute anterior segment conditions. When not seeing patients, he leads the IT department, concentrating on the implementation of Electronic Health Records (EHR), electronic communication with referring physicians and patients, and implementation of new clinic technology.

While at the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Optometry (UAB), Dr. McCarty was selected by the Dean as the Outstanding Optometry Student of his class. In addition, his classmates recognized him with the class Leadership Award. Upon completing his residency in pediatrics and ocular disease at SouthEast Eye Specialists in 2007, he joined the practice.

Dr. McCarty is an active member of the American Optometric Association and is Secretary-Treasurer of the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians (TAOP). He is a member of the national Pediatric Eye Disease Investigative Group (PEDIG). Dr. McCarty is an Eagle Scout and enjoys volunteering on the Executive Board of the local Boy Scout Council- Cherokee area where he serves as the Vice President of Programs. He and his wife Britney have one son.
