Alex Smart

Alex Smart has a diverse work experience spanning across various roles and industries. Most recently, they have been working at Southern Cross Travel Insurance, where they started as a Digital Experience Manager and quickly progressed to becoming the Head of Digital. Currently, Alex holds the position of Chief Technology Officer at the same company. Prior to this, they worked at Southern Cross Health Society as a Value Stream Product Owner.

Before their time at Southern Cross, Alex worked at ProCare Health Limited as a Strategic Development Project Manager, where they were responsible for the redesign of a high-tech imaging diagnostics service and the delivery of a members' website. They also held the role of Programme Manager at Counties Manukau Health, where they formulated, organized, and monitored inter-connected projects.

Alex also worked in various roles at different educational institutions, including Auckland City Training School, SENZ, Manukau Institute of Technology, and Counties Manukau District Health Board. In these roles, they were involved in projects related to IT strategy, development, implementation, and transformation.

Their early experience includes roles as a Web Designer/Manager at Vpeople Ltd and Stand Out Services, where they gained valuable web design and management skills.

Alex Smart completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science with a focus on Child Health at Auckland University of Technology from 2009 to 2010. Alex then pursued a Masters in Business Administration, obtaining a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration from the same university from 2015 to 2016. Before that, Alex obtained a Diploma in Computer Nursing, specializing in Registered Nursing, from Auckland University of Technology from 1987 to 1989. Additionally, they have acquired certifications such as Certified SAFe® 5 Agilist from Scaled Agile, Inc. in 2021 and PMI Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA)® from the Project Management Institute in 2019. Alex also holds a Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) certification from The Knowledge Academy and a PRINCE2® 2017 Practitioner certification from APMG International, both obtained in prior years.
