Genevieve Oliver

Dr Genevieve Oliver spent over 20 years moving around New Zealand, Australia and beyond to gain world-class training and experience as a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon.

It all started at Auckland University, where Genevieve gained her medical degree in 2005. After working as a junior doctor at Timaru and Dunedin Hospitals, Genevieve completed specialist ophthalmic training in Christchurch and Wellington, and gained a Masters degree from Otago University. Genevieve then embarked upon a fellowship in International Ophthalmology with the Fred Hollows Foundation in Timor Leste. During this time, she undertook further surgical training at LV Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderbad, India, and Mechi Eye Hospital in Nepal. Genevieve gained fellowship to The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) in 2015 and gained advanced training in medical and surgical retina in Adelaide, South Australia, before completing the competitive Graham Lovett Vitreoretinal Fellowship at Sydney Eye Hospital.

Genevieve returned to Adelaide in 2017 to take a post as a consultant vitreoretinal surgeon at Flinders Medical Centre and completed a PhD in neglected retinal infections at Flinders University. Her PhD was supported by multiple scholarships: the National Health and Medical Research Council Postgraduate Scholarship, the Avant Doctor-in-Training Research Scholarship, the RANZCO Industry Scholarship, and The South Australian Department of Environment and Water Minister’s Humane Research Scholarship. She was selected to attend the European Molecular Biology Laboratory Australia PhD Course and has presented her research at the international level.
