Robert Weatherhead

Oculoplastic & Reconstructive Surgeon at Southern Eye Specialists

Dr Robert Weatherhead began his journey in Ophthalmology in Dunedin where he earned his

medical degree at the Otago University back in 1971. After this achievement he then spent time in the United Kingdom, where he become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1981. The following year he would gain fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO).

Since returning to New Zealand in 1997 Robert has been a Senior Consultant in Ophthalmology. He has appointments at Christchurch Hospital, St George’s Hospital and Southern Cross Hospital, and provides private practice services as well.

At Christchurch Hospital, Robert’s appointment is in the area of oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery. Following his extensive experience at major teaching hospitals overseas this has been his speciality area – one he has worked in since 1986.

With an increase in demand for lid, lacrimal drainage system and orbital surgery Robert’s oculoplastic expertise is vital in helping address this need.
