Makeitta Darbonne Citizen has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. Makeitta began their career in 2004 as an Intern at Child Advocacy Services and later worked as an Administrative Assistant at Misdemeanor Probation. From 2004 to 2006, they served as a Student Assistant and Assistant Dean of Student Development at Southeastern Louisiana University. In 2007, Makeitta became the Coordinator of Multicultural and International Student Affairs at the same university, where they focused on academic enhancement, program development, and cross-cultural affairs.
Makeitta's career then took their to Target Corporation, where they worked as an Executive Team Leader in 2010. Makeitta managed guest service and merchandising for multiple departments and was responsible for training and developing retail team members.
From 2010 to 2013, Makeitta worked as a Child Welfare Specialist at the Department of Children and Family Services, where they set case plans and objectives, provided supportive counseling services, and prepared social histories and assessments.
Makeitta then joined the American Cancer Society in 2013 as a Community Events Specialist for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Makeitta executed a portfolio of community-based events, achieved income targets, and mobilized event volunteers.
In 2014, Makeitta joined Unitech Training Academy, where they initially served as the Career Services Coordinator, providing educational workshops and presentations to prepare students for the job market. Later, they became the Director of Student Affairs, fostering partnerships with businesses and increasing employment opportunities for graduates.
Makeitta also founded and served as the Executive Director of Project P.R.O.M.I.S.E, a non-profit organization dedicated to community engagement and development. Their most recent role was as the Director of Community Engagement at Southwest Louisiana Credit Union, where they applied their skills and experience to drive community initiatives.

Makeitta Darbonne Citizen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Southeastern Louisiana University, which they obtained in 2006.
