Guy Grubbs has extensive work experience in the field of electron spectrometer instrument development and deployment on auroral sounding rockets. Guy began their career as a Graduate Research Assistant at Southwest Research Institute in 2011, where they worked on the GREECE sounding rocket mission and gained experience in FPGA programming and soldering. In 2016, Grubbs joined The Catholic University of America as a Postdoctoral Researcher, working on the ISINGLASS sounding rocket mission and conducting atmospheric model integration and testing. Guy also mentored undergraduate students in software development and image analysis. In 2018, Grubbs became a NASA Postdoctoral Program Fellow at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, focusing on the development and fabrication of electron spectrometer instruments for the VISIONS-2 sounding rocket mission. Finally, in 2019, they returned to Southwest Research Institute as a Research Engineer, later transitioning to Senior Research Engineer and currently serving as Lead Engineer.
Guy Grubbs earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Electrical Engineering, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics, from St. Mary's University from 2006 to 2011. Guy then went on to obtain their Doctor of Philosophy degree in Atmospheric Physics and Dynamics from The University of Texas at San Antonio from 2011 to 2016.
