April Laster, MCLC, is a prominent leader in mental health and education, serving as the CEO and Founder of Open Heart Leaders since 2015, the only African American female-led organization in San Diego providing comprehensive mental health and educational services. In addition to this role, April founded Heart Leaders Academy in May 2023 and actively participates as a Black Advisory Board Member for San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, facilitating community engagement on various initiatives. April also contributes as an Advisory Board Member for the School of Business at Southwestern Community College District and the School of Education, Counseling & Psychology at Alliant International University. Furthermore, April is a member of the National Small Business Association Leadership Council, advocating for small businesses on a national level. April holds degrees from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University and Ashford University.
