Lee Barkley

Lee is a Senior Associate at Sovereign’s Capital, focusing on private equity investments in the lower middle market. Prior to joining Sovereign’s Capital, Lee most recently served as Corporate Counsel for Mergers and Acquisitions with National Veterinary Associates, a PE-backed veterinary healthcare company. In this role, Lee was responsible for all aspects of transactions to acquire and integrate veterinary practices into NVA. Before his time with NVA, Lee spent four years in the Mergers and Acquisitions practice group of Jones Day, one of the world’s leading law firms for M&A and corporate work. During his time at Jones Day, Lee counseled clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies on all manner of strategic transactions, operational concerns, and governance issues. Lee’s client base was market-wide, with notable experience in the materials, consumer products, healthcare and life sciences, and energy sectors. Lee began his career by spending two years as a financial analyst and consultant within Daimler AG (then parent to the Mercedes-Benz Group). In this position, Lee was responsible for a broad range of financial analysis and consulting activities, including production finance, corporate finance, and process consulting. Lee worked closely with company leadership across multiple sites in numerous countries.

Lee graduated from Mississippi State University in 2012 with a B.B.A. in International Business with a concentration in Finance, as well as a B.A. in Spanish. Lee graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2017 with a J.D. He is a licensed attorney in the state of Georgia.
